A Form 3 girl in St. Anne’s Girls secondary in Muranga residing in Mathare constituency, Mlango ward in Nairobi Kenya threatened to commit suicide for lack of school fees and the fear of not completing her secondary education. She has been home for a month with no way forward as the bill had risen to Kshs. 30,000. The parents through the father admitted they cannot afford the sum of money. The father is a security guard in Nairobi and the mother a peasant farmer in Mwingi town, eastern Kenya.
The girl Rhoda out of frustration reached out to Majimaji via Ghetto radio and through interventions via media and direct appeal to area leadership we have managed to contact area MCA (Member of County Assembly) Patriciah Mutheu who agreed and committed through bursary funds to assist her get back to school
We’ve intervened successfully and will follow her up to her fourth form to see her desire to complete her secondary education achieved through local government educational funds and well-wishers donations
